Suggestions for first-time travelers to Vietnam

VISA
Fistly, list the places you would like to visit in Vietnam. The following action should be a Vietnam visa application. Your most crucial document organized, you can concentrate on creating your itinerary and figuring out the practicalities for a trouble-free vacation.

It should go without saying that getting your visa in order should be your top priority. Every traveler needs one, so getting one is something you should do well in advance.

TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance is absolutely essential for Vietnam or any country. Regardless of your travel style or the type of tour you choose, travel insurance is highly recommended. This is especially important for adventure activities such as motorbike tours, cycling trips, and trekking in mountainous areas. Having adequate travel insurance ensures that you are protected against unexpected incidents and emergencies throughout your journey.

TIME TO TRAVEL
Vietnam’s climate differs greatly between the north and the south due to its terrain. Many travelers are unaware of this and believe incorrectly that the weather and temperature would be constant throughout their entire journey.
The best time to visit South of Vietnam is during the dry season ( December to April ).  This period offers consistently warm temperatures, low humidity, and minimal rainfall, making it perfect for outdoor activities, beach trips, and sightseeing

The best time to visit Northern Vietnam is during the autumn (September to November) and spring (March to April). During these months, the weather is mild, dry, and ideal for outdoor exploration.

However, it is generally not recommended to visit Vietnam during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday. During this period, many shops and businesses are closed, some tourist attractions may have limited opening hours or be temporarily closed, and finding restaurants that meet your expectations can be more challenging. If you plan to travel during Tet, it is advisable to make arrangements and reservations well in advance.
Always keep in mind that the weather is erratic and might bring everything from bitter cold and frequent downpours to sweltering heat and evening storms.

You need to be certain of your destination before choosing the appropriate season. You might need to modify your route based on the weather if you only have a limited amount of time to go.

 ITINERARY
I always advise traveling slowly, especially if it’s your first time there. To properly see major cities like Hanoi and Saigon or Central of Vietnam, you need at least three - four full days. Utilize the greatest day tours in Vietnam to explore more of the nation while using the cities as a base.
Learning about Vietnamese culture, traditions, and food – which vary depending on area – takes time. If you rush through and try to cram too much in, your experience might not be as satisfying.

Another thing to bear in mind is that, despite how little Vietnam seems on a map, you shouldn’t be misled by it. Traveling across the nation still requires time, particularly if you rely on trains and buses. A fantastic strategy to save time and see more is to include a few domestic flights.

HOTEL

It is also recommended that you consult reviews on platforms such as TripAdvisor and Booking.com to gain better insights and make more informed decisions about tours, accommodations, and travel experiences in Vietnam.

In the South, hotels located in District 1 are highly recommended.
In the North, in Hanoi, hotels in the Old Quarter are the best choice. Most tour operators provide pick-up and drop-off services in these areas if you join a tour.

OUTFITS

For summer travel, you should wear comfortable clothing made from breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. You can also easily purchase these items in Vietnam, where there is a wide variety of styles, colors, and good-quality materials available.

In winter, especially in northern Vietnam and mountainous areas, the weather can be very cold and harsh, so it is important to dress warmly.

When visiting temples and other religious sites, modest clothing is required. At a minimum, you should wear clothing that covers your knees and shoulders, and avoid outfits that expose the midriff

PRE-BOOK YOUR TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT (SAVE YOUR TIME )
I advise purchasing a local sim card and downloading a taxi app as soon as you arrive at your first destination because using taxis in Vietnam might be intimidating.
My best advice is to pre-book your airport transfer so that you won’t have to worry about getting to your first accommodation if you want to get started quickly. Even though I frequently visit Vietnam, I still plan ahead for my airport transportation because the cost of automobiles is so affordable and it makes life so much simpler.
